Cricket Watch

Our Cricket Watch on August 17, 2014 was attended by Keith Dodd,  Steve Plant, Alan Jones, Peter Hill and myself.

This was a visit to look for bush crickets. The weather had, in the previous few days, turned much cooler, rain threatened, and I feared we would not find many, if any, crickets. I need not have worried. In the company of such experts and enthusiasts, we found plenty - bush crickets, grasshoppers and many other insects, and it was a really interesting afternoon. The sun even shone.

Our findings were mainly from just two promising areas, where I had previously found some crickets. So it's likely that we have a healthy population of both species around the reserve.

If  you are a Wildlife Enthusiast, if you are interested in birds, mammals, insects or plants, whether you are a beginner or know quite a lot about it, this may interest you.

We have a very small group of dedicated enthusiasts constantly Imagewatching and monitoring aspects of the wildlife in our Nature Reserve. I hope you've been able to look at our wildlife registers on this site which will give you an idea of what we are trying to do.

We are looking towards expanding the group by getting dedicated local Imagepeople involved, particularly dealing with insects and plant life on the Reserve. You would not be committed to a particular work program and we would encourage people to develop their own approach with advice and support from the Management Group. You could devote as much or as little time as you wish.

Be a wildlife enthusiast! Contact me if you would like to find out more.Image
