ImageAn appeal to dog walkers in Nutwood

Did you know that many birds nest on or near the ground and are easily disturbed?

A wildlife expert says: "Nesting birds such as willow warbler, garden warbler, whitethroat and lapwing are easily scared by roaming dogs and often fly away until the threat has passed. The eggs or chicks are then left unprotected and vulnerable to chilling or predation from birds such as magpies and rooks.Image

Dog walking is very popular at Nutwood and it is dogs off leads that are the primary concern for the ground nesting birds. Dogs pose a particular threat as they rarely keep to paths, race over large areas and snuffle around in undergrowth that is not easily accessible to people".

This is our appeal to all dog owners:

Keep your dogs near you or on a lead,

particularly in April, May and June

(From the Management Group - Darley and Nutwood LNR)

THANK YOU
