Welcome to our website which tells you about the Darley and Nutwood Local Nature Reserve.

Our nature reserve is unusual in having a range of different habitats in a small area within the Derby City boundary. Whilst we have no unique species on the site, there is a wide variety of plants and animals, some of which are uncommon.

The nature reserve offers a very different environment to the more formal parks nearby, and we plan to retain this 'wild' feel and to encourage biodiversity on the site. We are fortunate to have been designated as a Local Nature Reserve by Natural England. This affords a degree of protection to the site, and supports our main aim of nature conservation.

The reserve is governed by a management plan approved by Natural
England. The reserve is owned by Derby CityCouncil and is managed by a subcommittee of the Darley Abbey Society.

This management group comprises local residents, two naturalists working for the City Council and another working for the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. In addition there are a number of "Friends" who maintain an interest in and assist with projects on the nature reserve.

If you would like to know more about the nature reserve, to join our email list of friends, or to help with surveys or conservation work on the site please contact me by email or by phone on 01332 557249.
