A decision to withdraw WildDerby funding was made by Derby City
Council at the end of January 2013.
This not only means a loss of funding, but also the loss of
Beverley Rhodes, who ran the project. She has taken voluntary redundancy.
Beverley was an invaluable source of professional advice,
whose knowledge and expertise will be greatly missed both by our Management Group,
and by all those in similar positions on other Nature Reserves in the City. Our
Management Group met this week and asked that I write to Beverley thanking her
for her support in setting up and managing Darley and Nutwood LNR over the last
The work of our group of volunteers will continue, and the
City Council will provide limited funds to cover insurance, a day of TCV work,
and updating management plans for the 10 LNR's and associated groups.
We will lack the expert professional advice and knowledge
which Beverley provided, but are fortunate in having a newly updated Management
Plan for our site which will cover the years 2013 to 2017.
The Parks Department at the Council also propose to
establish an overarching Green Space Forum to facilitate the sharing of
information among the volunteer groups, and we will take an active part in this.
The next few years will pose some difficult challenges and
are likely to place greater demands on the many volunteers on whom we rely to
care for our Nature Reserve.
I will let you know how things progress.
